All my life, I thought paper snowflakes were some fantastic exaggeration of the winter season. Call it cynicism after learning the truth about Santa... Yet the other day, I finally caught one on my glove and I was transfixed by the microscopic complexity. Now I want to take these pictures back to Florida and show all the kids these really do exist!!

ReplyDeleteAll my life I've lived in a tropical country, Malaysia. I thought snowflakes didn't actually look like that. Thought it was just something cartoon shows made up. Last December, I saw before my eyes delicate snowflakes falling onto my hand. Within close inspection I realised how beautifully shaped they were. So intricate and fragile. Ah, nature is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteP.S: congrats on being blogger of note!

These are some really good photos. The snow flakes are cool and kind of calming to stare at. I just picked a camera for the first time to take real photos. Wish You would explain how you set up to take these and some of the other photos.
ReplyDeleteOh Mike, I'm certainly not talented enough to take these photos! Apparently, it took Yuji Obata 5 years to develop the technique to capture these snowflakes in freefall. See the full story on the original post from a great blog called the year in pictures
